Farming is a broad term used to refer to a variety of agricultural activities undertaken to elevate plant life to provide food, feed, money, etc.. In most areas of the Earth, farming has been practiced on smaller scales. Some parts, however, still practice farming large-scale with tens of thousands of acres of cultivated land to the creation of produce. This practice, though common, is not that widespread and many countries have their own traditional agricultural traditions and practices. These standard agricultural methods will be the focus of the report and the following discussion will focus on the main forms of farming method.
The most traditional type of farming is referred to as vertical farming and it is the foundation of most other types of farming practiced now. Vertically planted rows of crops are grown in dirt on towers. These rows are typically spaced evenly and crops are grown in a prescribed pattern, for instance, crop sown close to the bottom and permitted to develop to a height of a couple of meters, then harvested. The vertical farming process is quite useful in producing surplus crop, and it has come to be an accepted practice in a number of countries.
The next kind of farming is called nomadic herding and it is practiced by farmers that move from place to place on their flocks of livestock. In ancient days, nomadic herding was performed mainly by animal shepherds and they enabled their flocks of sheep, cows, goats and at times oxen to graze openly on the land. The custom has undergone a lot of modification and now consists of raising cereals, grazing cattle, grain, tea, coffee and yams on small farms. Cattle are raised for meat and milk, while cereals and other dairy produce are raised for consumption. Herdry and poultry are raised for eggs, meat and feathers.
Mixed farming refers to the practice of farming in which plants are grown on the same lands. This is chiefly done on small farms, and combined farming is broadly practiced in the southern parts of Asia and Africa, in which big farmers can proceed to places where soil is very fertile and plants are easily grown. Mixed farming is suitable for men and women that don’t have sufficient time to devote to all aspects of farming. They can save money on a big scale and improve their standard of living by developing a variety of types of crops.
Aside from these three big kinds of farming, there are many small types of farming which have their particular significance in controlling the standard of living of their farmers. Organic farming is just one such type, which has been practiced in certain areas for a long time now. This form of agriculture aims at promoting and maintaining the natural health of the environment by developing crops in an eco-friendly method. It’s practiced by small farmers who aim at enhancing the soil, using ecological methods of pest management and protecting the environment from further pollution.
On the flip side, there are several kinds of farming that involve a significant number of creatures, such as growing and rearing of sheep, goats, and other domestic cows, and growing trees in arid lands. For plantation farming, trees are being planted on farms which produce fruits and vegetables. The main purpose of the type of farming would be to minimize the usage of fertilizers and pesticides, and make the property as insect free as you can.
